Frequently Asked Qs
What do I need to bring?
Sunscreen and a water bottle. A hat is also recommended. Of course, bring a sense of adventure and a good dose of humour.
What should I wear?
Something that will be comfortable if you fall in. If it’s warm, a bathing suit is all you need. If it‘s a little cooler, synthetic tights and a light shirt or jacket are good. Avoid anything cotton if possible – it gets cold when it‘s wet. For early and late season, a light wetsuit is ideal.
Check our home page for current weather conditions.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Short answer: Yes. Although you must wear a lifejacket at all times, you need to feel comfortable if you happen to fall in the water. We will be out past the swim area in the deeper water.
What if the weather is bad?
Wind can make a big difference for your water adventure. It’s best to paddle into the wind to go out, and return with the wind at your back when you may be a little tired. This way, you're more likely to return safely and on time. It's not recommended to go out if the wind is blowing over 20km/hr.
Sometimes, Mother Nature doesn't go along with our plans. We'll happily postpone, transfer, or refund your reservation if she doesn't cooperate with us.
Are there good restaurants in Crystal Beach?
There are several great restaurants along Erie Road or snack places on Derby Road. The Beach House has great fish 'n chips, Casa Hugo has a fun patio if you like Mexican food, Shaka for smoothies, or South Coast for a full range of food. We've never had a bad meal there.
Are there cool shops?
The coolest. The Mercantile sells gifts, games and Pop Rocks, Planks for hoodies and jewelry, and The Beach Market for fresh groceries and artisan goods. Off the beaten track is Beach Town Antiques and the best butcher/baker ever at Your Farmgate.
Where should I stay?
Check out a Holiday Homes cottage, or talk to Nicole at Crystal Coast House. In the Moment resort is beautiful, and The Crystal Beach Motel is very accommodating.
